This may be irrelevant but am I the only one who remembers an old Channel 4 game show called Interceptor involving guns, backpacks stuffed with cash and treasure-hunt style clues?

If you watched and loved the above programme, please respond and together we can get a petition up to bring Interceptor back to our screens!!!

ARE YOU WITH ME...

You're certainly not the only one... CMD and myself I know were fans, I can't speak for anybody else. In the meantime, you might want to look at: http://www.innotts.co.uk/~chart/

You obviously don't remember it *that* well...

It was on ITV

I remember The Interceptor and I always thought it should have been brought back... the backpacks were a bit tacky though - as far as I remember, some of the time they didn't work and the runners got away. Still, that's just as bad as trackers on Wanted accidentally forgetting to turn the camera on....

OH WOW, and here's me thinking I'm the only human alive that thought Interceptor was the greatist thing since sliced bread.

I LOVED that show too. Incidentaly it was made by the same people who did Treasure Hunt and Crystal Maze (Chatsworth TV). Last time I spoke to them they said that they didn't make anymore due to it being unpopular. Still have one episode on video, (love the theme tune). I'm with you!

Re: Interceptor

Thanks to all who responded, Steve P, it's sad but I don't even remember the theme tune!!! I'd love to own a copy of that video though, I've probably got a few episodes on tape somewhere but It'd take me forever and a day to find them!!!

The Interceptor was unpopular was it?

If I remember correctly then yes it probably was but me and my friends all used to tune in loyally each week and I'm sure that if the show was taken out, dusted down and given a new image ( and the sort of advertising the first series of Wanted got) then I'm sure it would be a hit!

As for the channel the show was on, I stand corrected.

Bye for now!

Ahem. Should anyone ever find a tape with a surviving episode (or more) on it, I'd dearly like to trade for a
copy of it. Mail me at chris.dickson@keb.ox.ac.uk and we can sort it out from there.

Chris Hart's site is blinkin' good, too, yes.

Re: Interceptor

yep, it was very eagle-ish -although I must admit I haven't heard many eagles. It used to give the runners the willies though! I vote to bring it back.

AND I have to confess I have a couple of episodes on tape, and remember the theme tune. And who remembers Mikey the 'copter pilot then, eh?

Those were the days!!!!

Goto

And sign the guestbook and say that Matt Lee sent you!!!

If you goto the files page there is one .wav where Sean O'Kane (the interceptor) does the eagle sound.

Mikie is really Michael Malerick Smith (or something like that) who is a pilot and director of Castle Air Charters Limited.

Aparently the Interceptors helicopter (G-MEAN) was for some
reason lost in the English channel!!!

GOTO THE PAGE, IT'S GREAT

Oh wow!!! All these Interceptor fans!! I cannot believe it! This is just too cool after all these years!

The last I heard from Chatsworth TV, the concept of Interceptor was still alive and Malcom Heyworth was even considering approaching a satellite broadcaster to take it over. This was a few years ago though. I also know that as of about 4 years ago, the Interceptor props were in storage away from London - yeah I asked for a souvenier!

I was missing one episode of the 8 episode series and I managed to get a copy direct from Chatsworth for £30. Perhaps a bit expensive, but then it was to complete the collection for me and so very worth it. Maybe we could get something going to maybe get the series shown again. I still say that had the series been shown on Channel 4, it would have had a longer run - I think it was maybe better (certainly more exciting and funnier) than Treasure Hunt and Crystal Maze.

I have samples of both the actual tv intro and the Rock Revolution single. I don't have the space on my site to put them up, but if anyone wants them, I can email them. Or, if there is a particular extract from an episode you want, I can sample that and either put it on the site or send it.

There were so many good things in Interceptor - Sean O'Kane made the best baddie ever. His remarks to his suffering pilot Michael Malric-Smith were so funny. And the ambushes?? :) Like the time he borrowed a tractor and actually drove for a while with the contestant on the back whilst speaking to her in a fake country accent! Ha ha ha! Too cool.

Sean O'Kane is now living and working in San Fransisco - his latest role being a small part (very) in The Saint. Anyone seen it? Chatsworth forwarded a letter to him and he sent me a hand written letter back. It was obvious from the letter that he loved every minute of it.

I'm still saving for a screen grabber and then I can put some better piccies up on my site!

You lot just made my day - big style! I LIKE IT!

Too right! The best programme ever on TV.
Incidentally, one of the feeble excuses ITV used as to why they were not making a second series was that the contestants now recognised Sean O'Kane and so they could not do tricks as putting him in a tractor etc..
It's a good job I didn't save the episodes on tape as I'd probably watch one every night! What a cool programme.
Still, Crystal Maze was almost as good until Ed Tudor-Pole spoilt everything. He played with his band in a pub round the corner from me two years ago. T**ser

Okay, lets get hypothetical. Assuming this is the case, it suggests we need a new interceptor... ideas?

I'd love to see Ray try - somehow, I think he's too nice....... :-)

Again, someone relatively unknown but nasty-looking would fit the bill. Using a radio-1-quality link, wasn't someone (Tosh Lines???) from The Bill meant to be the Interceptor until it was decided he didn't have the right appearance and attitude?

The obvious-yet-slightly-cheesy choice would be someone like, say, Wolf from Gladiators. Failing that, they could do a lot worse than the trackers on this show. Maybe Dave McBride has "the look" best.

Rob, it's not sad!!!
I recon that anybody with a black leather jacket on, and a zapper (for search of a better word) straped to his arm may be suspected by the contestants.

Sean was great, it wouldn't be the same without him!!!

or that's my opinion

Bring Back Interceptor

Re: Interceptor

too right Matt - the concept of the show wasn't about not recognising the Interceptor, but about not letting him zap you. Besides, the runners were usually so hyped up that they wouldn't have recognised him in "plain clothes" even if he walked up to them with "Interceptor" printed in bold letters across his forehead. They were keyed in to the "if it is in black leather then run for your life (usually backwards)" philosophy.
Bring the show back, on C4, and give us so called "sad" thread followers something to cheer about! Even a set of repeats would do for starters.
Keep it up folks!
PS - must've been darned hot in that coat!

Wow! I thought everyone had totally forgotten Interceptor. I agree that it was the best programme ever and would love to see it back (even a repeat is better than nothing). It's been far too long! It would be hard to find a replacement for Sean, would he be interested in returning ? Does anyone have any more info on what he has been up to for the last few years? In the meantime Wanted is almost as much fun so I
hope it will run for a long time. Great discussion !!

It would be really great if C4 would either repeat or better still resurrect Interceptor.

Sean has had a number of small roles, the latest being in The Saint. He is currently living in San Fansisco, but a few years ago Chris Heart wrote to him via Chatsworth Television, and recieved a hand written letter from sean saying he loved doing the show.

All of this info is from Chris Hart who has a great web page at

I love you, No-one at school knows what I am talking about, when I ask them about Interceptor. I used to love that programme, I had almost all the episodes of it on tape, until my Dad set all our holiday videoing over the top, it was 3 MONTHS until I talked to him again. Another unfortunate Interceptor incident, was when I tried doing a somersault over a farm gate, in the style of the Interceptor, and injured my back.

I will support all moves to bring back this classic programme

Does anyone have a list of where the shows were based? I know that one was based in Chipping Camden, as I have it on video (and so will CMD soon :-) ) but I think that I missed quite a few of the progs (boo hoo), any help greatfully received.

The shows were filmed in the following areas, in the order broadcast:-

1) Kent - around Faversham.
2) Norfolk - around Reedham.
3) Wye Valley - around Hay on Wye.
4) Lake District - around Eskdale Green and Wast water.
5) Derbyshire - around Haddon Hall, Bakewell and Chatsworth house.
6) Borders - around Kelso.
7) Costswolds - around Chipping Camden.
8) Cornwall - around Pentire Point, Port Isaac and Padstow.

Last night showed that a hypothetical replacement Interceptor would have, but have, to be Dave McBride.
He's got the look, he's got the attitude, he's got the accent (OK, not Scottish, but anything reasonably
pronounced would do.)

We can dream...
