Interceptor: Let the flame burn bright!
posted by Lee Beckett on 7:Feb:1998:01:02:00.
As there hasn't been a message poted for a while, I thought I would once again make a
contribution.
It is so good to see you, Chris, putting so much of your time and resources behind a
programme that is so worthy of praise and so worthy of a reprise.
Why was there only one season of this when we have now had confirmed that there will be a
Second Season of Ice Warriors which is the biggest pile of sewage the world has ever seen.
Have TV commissioners got any mercy?
Now with more images and music, this site has grown to be the best on the net. I, on
behalf of all the closet Interceptor fans thank you.
I am still eager to get my grubby mitts on video copies of Interecptor for me to keep.
Although I understand many will not want to part with their originals (I would be the same),
any one with the ability to get me an identical copy would be a saint. They would give me
an immense amount of pleasure to relive a whole episode once more.
All the best,
Lee

Thanks for the kind words Lee! If you look carefully, you might just see my chest swell with
pride! :-) I'm glad that people are still visiting my site. It will always be under
construction, with new movies, images and sounds being added all the time. I have other
plans for the future too. I'd love to gain official approval by Chatsworth
tv, a proper
domain name (www.interceptor.co.uk maybe), interviews with contestants and maybe some
behind the scenes info from Chatsworth themselves.
Why only one season? I have no idea. Just how many more series of You've Been Framed can we
take? It was funny for the first couple of years, but now? And don't get me started on Ice
Warriors! Jeez!
I always get a little sad when I watch the Cornwall episode of Interceptor, knowing that it
was the last one. The Interceptor and Mikie were just working really well as a team, with a
brilliant ambush and lots of hilarious dialogue. It would have been great if there had been
a second series. I can imagine even better set pieces than the tractor scam. More
familiarity and even funnier dialogue between Int, Mikie and `onionhead`...er...I mean
Annabel! :-) I can't imagine how I would feel with five minutes to go before the start of
the first episode in a second series. It was bad enough the first time around - glancing at
the video every few minutes to make sure it was still recording. I'm sure if there had been
a second series, the excitement would have been too much! :-)
I'm still trying to limit how much I use my tapes. I'm so scared of them wearing out, or my
machine chewing them. It shouldn't be much longer before DVD will be here though and then
I can transfer them to digital media - FOR GOOD! It should be a little easier then to pass
discs around the country to whoever wants to see them.
Well thanks again Lee. I'm so pleased I bought the video grabber. I've really enjoyed
grabbing the pictures and putting them up. I particularly enjoyed making the tractor movie -
imagining everyone watching it again for the first time in eight years. What a classic.
Stay tuned! Interceptor WILL be back!

US Interceptor Pilot
posted by Andy Dudik on 23:Feb:1998:20:48:52.
A long time ago, maybe 8 or 9 years ago, I was watching television late at night, and
Interceptor came on. I watched the whole thing in awe, and I couldn't wait until next week for
another show. Unfortunately, the next show never came but I have still been a fan ever since.
You see, I live in the US and when I found out that there was a show in the UK, I couldn't
believe it. Now, what I think I saw was the US pilot, but it was so long ago (heck, I was
only 11!) that I don't remember much, but there are some things I don remember. First of
all, the logo was different. I think it was blue and black and in a different font. I also
remember that the Interceptor had on a helmet, and you couldnt see his face. Other that
that, the game looks alot like the one that is in the UK. Now like I said, I'm not too sure
about these differences, but I think I'm right. If there's anybody who could clarify this,
I would appreciate it. By the way, I absolutely LOVE this page, and keep up the great work

The Return Of Interceptor?????
posted by Lee Beckett on 13:Apr:1998:01:36:04.
Well, of sorts......
I have seen recently in the TV listings that Challenge TV has bought the rights to start
broadcasting some of the older episodes of The Crystal Maze.
For those who don't know, CM is also made by Chatsworth Television but came AFTER
Interceptor.
If Challenge can therefore show Crystal Maze, is it not now far more possible of gaining
access to a show that came before it i.e. Interceptor? Get my gist?
I have wrote another letter to Challenge TV and will keep you posted as to the results.
However, I think now we can be a lot more confident that a reprise of Interceptor on TV
may be in the pipeline....
Keep your finger and toes crossed......

It's been ages since I last visited the site, mainly because it took to long to load.
However, I've just upgraded to a faster modem so you can look forward to hearing lots more
from me in the future.
For those of you who don't know, I started this whole forum on the Wanted web page and
reading back now it makes me kinda proud.
I wrote to challenge TV some time last summer but my reply was pretty much the same as the
one printed above. I also wrote to chatsworth re aquiring a video of one of the existing
episodes. I don't wish to slag them off but they didn't even reply!!!
Now they may not have got my letter or it may have been misplaced but am I wrong in
thinking that this sums up their attutude to the whole situation.
It is sad to think of the shows which HAVE got second series'. Ice Warriors
(pah), all
those godawful Bruce Forsyth game shows on ITV and my personal bete noir "Big Break".
Like I've said before, given a bigger budget and more publicity, Interceptor could have
worked. Now it's all but forgotten.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it return on sattelite (even though I don't have easy
access to sattelite or cable) and call me pessimistic but I can't see it happening myself.
Sorry to end on a slightly depressing note but "It's like that-and that's the way it is
(huh)"

In response to your letter, Paul, I have to completely disagree with your
point of view.
Interceptor can be resurrected by fans if we all pull together and
heighten awareness. You say it's all but forgotten.....LET'S CHANGE THAT.
I am prepared to bet my life that there are many people who would like to
see it back if they were just simply reminded of its existance.
Chris has done an excellent job with this site, as has Hetein, and I
intend to follow suit soon. Talking about it, getting more and more
people to remember it is the only way forward...
My case in point is Star Trek. Cancelled in 1968, it took the fans 11
years to resurrect the series. They were up against Paramount - a company
more massive than Chatsworth or Pearson. ST was a cult show (as is this)
but with more and more support it turned into one of the most popular
shows EVER.
Defeatism isn't an option. I am going to fight tooth and nail to see it
repeated/resurrected. I intend to do anything to see it's return..and I
hope I have your support and all who visit this site.
Cheers,
Lee

Re: Interceptor
posted by Chris Hart on 6:May:1998:09:49:28. Nice one Lee!
I respect Paul's opinion, but I have to agree with Lee.
Interceptor was originally shown in a prime time slot and DID attract
MILLIONS of viewers. It may be true that the viewing figures weren't to the
liking of the powers that be, but it only had seven weeks to establish
a fan base. I am sure that I have read that the very first series of
`Only Fools And Horses` was a flop. The BBC persevered and the programme
went on to be a massive hit, as I'm sure Interceptor would have done too.
Whatever, the fact remains that there are millions of people out there
who did watch and presumably enjoyed Interceptor in its first and only
showing.
A second series would have seen Sean O'Kane REALLY getting into the role,
better ambushes and increased familiarity between the Interceptor and Mikie
with even better dialogue as a result. Chatsworth would perhaps have
tinkered with the technology or the game play to make it even better - who
knows.
Television companies these days seem under pressure to constantly deliver
guaranteed shows to please the advertisers. ITV is facing increasing
competition from Satellite and cable channels which is maybe why we have
to endure series after series of `You've been framed`, more and more
soaps and rehashed shows like `Bruce's Price Is Right` and `Bruce's Play
Your Cards Right`. They don't seem to want to gamble on new shows anymore
unless maybe it features an established `celebrity` or emulates a
proven formula. `Ice Warriors` for example is nothing more than Gladiators
on ice.
If you enjoyed Interceptor the first time around and you would like to see
it again - repeated or resurrected, then please show your support by
adding a message to this forum and/or writing to ANY television company
to encourage them to repeat it. Challenge TV and Chatsworth seem good
starting points. They may get sick of us bombarding them with pleas for
repeats, but as the saying goes - if you don't ask, you don't get!
If Lee's post above doesn't fire you up enough to fight the loss of
Interceptor, then nothing will. Act now or be subjected to `Bob's Full
House 2000` in a couple of years time - It will happen - you have been
warned!
Interceptor 2000??? Now doesn't that sound MUCH better? I think so.

Interceptor Site
posted by Chris M. Dickson on 16:May:1998:04:35:05.
Okey-doke - I have just sent off a polite but enthusiastic e-mail to Challenge TV's
Programme Acquisition Department complimenting them on their line-up and requesting the
purchase of the rights to Interceptor. Probably won't have much effect, but, hey, it made me
feel good. :-)
I have also copied details of the campaign to ukgs-l, the mailing list for discussing game
shows in the UK and the wider issues surrounding them; you never know, it might generate an
extra half dozen e-mails that way.
What's wrong with Bob's Full House 2000, anyway? It would probably mean there wouldn't be
"Lucky Numbers" on ITV at the same time, which has got to be a good thing... :-)
Take care
Chris

Interceptor
posted by David Boothroyd on 31:May:1998:19:08:05.
I've only just discovered this site, having previously thought everyone else had forgotten
'The Interceptor'. Given that it was only on for seven weeks nine years ago obviously it did
have staying power!
As I remember the reason it was cancelled (or rather not given a second series) was internal
machinations inside the ITV network centre rather than poor ratings. There was a considerable
fuss about it at the time on the pages of Oracle (ITV teletext).
The Interceptor theme is a reworked version of a piece of classical music, the name of which I
am unable to recall.
