Both Thames and Chatsworth said that negotiations were already
under way before the results of the Oracle poll but, with
television companies under increasing pressure to prove
themselves in the ratings war, viewer surveys could become
powerful weapons for determining a programme's fate.
Chatsworth's managing
director, Malcolm Heyworth, said early rating for the show had
been lower than expected but the figures proved that light
entertainment programmes such as Interceptor needed more time to
catch on.
A spokeswoman for Thames
said that the company had been disappointed with the viewing
figures and said that although there had been a recent increase
in audiences, the show's future was still under consideration
and changes would probably have to |
be made.
