Michael Malric-Smith recently conducted by Marcus Durham for the Farnborough Air
Show Radio (farnboroughairshowradio.com).
Next up is the long awaited Interceptor's Christmas message in video form. This
clip has been removed from the Cornwall episode shown by Challenge. More

What can I say!
At around 11pm last night a large portion of the old forum was
wiped out for reasons unknown. The entire members directory was deleted which is
why you wouldn't have been able to login today. In addition most of the boards
went however many of the messages are still intact, they are just no longer
indexed and therefore won't display.
The best I've been able to do is restore the forum to the
middle of April! Approximately 800 posts have been lost and over twenty users
will need to reregister.
I can only apologise for this. If the recent performance of my
host wasn't bad enough with frequent and extended periods of downtime it now
appears that they don't have a reliable backup system.
I've taken this opportunity to upgrade the forum to an all
singing all dancing version that now features a database back end. This will
make it much easier for me to backup and restore the forum almost in an
instant.
There are several new features, not all of which are enabled
just yet but I'm sure you'll see a few new things to tinker with.
I will do my best to pick out the bits of information from the
messages I managed to salvage and start to reconstruct as many threads as I can.
My apologies again to new users who will need to reregister. I
hope you will take the time to join again and help to bring this forum back to
life. That goes to the existing members also. I hate it when the host is playing
up - I imagine people trying to login, failing and deciding not to come back.
I'm really pleased with the way this forum has grown over the last year. You,
the members have made it a success, I now need you to get posting and lets get
back to normal.
Rest assured I will be looking at alternative hosting
solutions.
Sorry once again!
If anyone has a recent copy of the old members list in their
browser cache that would be a really big help. Any other cached pages too -
recent threads particularly.
Thursday 27 June 2002:
Anyone at all interested in Castle Air should take a look at http://www.farnboroughairshowradio.com. This is a website to accompany the Farnborough Air Show radio station that will be transmitting during the show next month. A couple of the production team recently visited Castle Air and were treated to a tour of the facility by Michael Malric-Smith and Keith Thompson. They were later taken for a swift flight in G-BVCJ, the "Flying Gardener" Agusta 109. Look in the features section from the home page for the Castle Air pages which features many photographs from their day plus several audio clips of interviews with Michael and Keith.
Sunday 3 June 2002:
Blimey is it really five months ago since I last posted anything here? If
you really want to keep up to date with the latest Interceptor news then please
the forum on this site - http://forum.interceptors-lair.com.
A lot has happened since January. Firstly, as you probably
know Interceptor continues to be a success for Challenge TV. So much so that
they have now rescheduled it to a prime-time slot at 7pm on Saturdays and
Sundays. There is a rumour that Sean and Annabel will be appearing on Challenge
TV shortly although Sean didn't mention this when I spoke to him this week.
Sean is currently being bombarded with fan mail once again. If
you would like a signed picture, please print any pictures from this site and
send it to Sean via his agent (with a sae) as he has now totally run out. Sean
takes the time and trouble to personally write back to all of his fans.
In February I was fortunate enough to spend the week in Doyden
Castle in Cornwall. This was of course the Interceptor's lair. We had a great
time there perched right up on the cliff top. It was amazing to wake first thing
in the morning and literally without even having to get up you could look
straight out of one of three windows on the top floor and see the pounding waves
just a short drop below you.
In April, Clive Harris (Cornwall contestant) invited me down
to Castle Air in Cornwall. He had spent the week there flying a Jetranger (G-ONTV)
with Michael Malric-Smith in order to add a turbine rating to his license. We
met on Thursday in Polperro and had a great night discussing Interceptor and
Castle Air. The next day we flew pretty much the entire coast of Cornwall with a
detour to the Scilly Isles where we landed at Tresco. Clive was at the controls
most of the time however Michael took over a couple of times and proceed to take
us very low and very fast. It seemed as though we were skimming the waves along
the North Cornish coast. The journey was over almost before we knew it - we had
been travelling at speeds of around 200mph! A fantastic day all thanks to Clive
and his wife Jenny.
A few weeks ago I resigned from my position as an Internet
developer in Derby and am currently in the process of purchasing a business in
Cornwall. Cornwall seems to be my spiritual home so I thought I may as well move
down there!
I'm hoping to have some extra time on my hands now, so expect
to see lots of new content appearing on this site sometime soon.
Wednesday 9 January 2002:
A further eight images added to the Lairs section in image downloads.
Monday 7 January 2002:
I've updated the Castle Air collection of images adding more detail to the
existing images and provided a further eight images to the eight already
present. I've also started a new image collection containing pictures of various
Interceptor lairs.
Friday 4 January 2002:
I've just added a new "Images" section to the
"Downloads" page. It features the start of one collection of images
for now - some pictures taken at a recent tour of Castle Air. I will add more
over the coming weeks.
